Australia captain Michael Clarke was on Monday ruled out of Friday's tri-series ODI match against Sri Lanka due to a hamstring strain he sustained during the four-wicket loss to India here.

"Australian captain Michael Clarke has been ruled out of Friday's one-dayer against Sri Lanka at the SCG due to a grade one hamstring strain," Cricket Australia said in a statement.

Clarke sustained the injury while fielding during the loss to India, at the Adelaide Oval yesterday.

"The 30-year-old will be assessed later in the week and is optimistic he will feature against Sri Lanka at the Gabba on Sunday," CA said.

Cricket Australia will now announce their squad for the remaining matches of the series on Tuesday after originally planning on doing so on Monday.

"An acting captain will also be confirmed on Tuesday," CA said. Australia currently sit atop the tri-series table with two wins and a loss but could move down to second if India beat Sri Lanka in Adelaide tomorrow.

"I have a grade one hamstring strain so will be out of Friday's game," Clarke posted on Twitter.

Team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said Clarke's fitness would be assessed later in the week. "(He) sustained a low grade right hamstring strain. I will assess him later this week and decide on his availability for the game in Brisbane on Sunday," Kountouris said in a statement.
