Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) lodged a police complaint against five under-16 cricketers who took part in the recently-concluded MCA’s summer vacation coaching camps for age fudging.
"Soham Panwalkar, Mohammad Faiz Rathod, Amey Chemburkar, Govind Yadav and Altamash Khan played as U-16 players. They submitted forged documents and we have lodged a police complaint against them," MCA Joint Secretary Dr Unmesh Khanvilkar told mid-day after the Managing Committee meeting yesterday.
"One of these players has even submitted a document that mentions his birth date even before he was actually born. MCA is very serious about this issue and we are not going to allow any malpractice from our players including outstation cricketers who will try to register with the association to participate in upcoming MCA tournaments," said Khanvilkar.
Meanwhile, even though the MCA have lost 12 of its cricket plots at the Azad Maidan due to the ongoing Metro III project, Khanvilkar is optimistic that the Dr HD Kanga League cricket tournament will not face hurdles. "Though we have not received any alternate grounds for our clubs at Azad Maidan, there won’t be any problems because we will be starting the Kanga League on July 9," he added. On the coaching front, the MCA called for applications for various coaches at its Bandra Kurla Complex’s indoor academy following the removal of former India stumper Chandrakant Pandit as its Director.
