Aussies leave behind Hussey, Hauritz, but will land in India today with semi-fit Ponting, Haddin and all-rounder Smith

Australia land in India tonight with only 12 fully fit players, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

The selectors did not take a chance with left-handed batsman Mike Hussey (hamstring injury) and off-spinner Nathan Hauritz (shoulder), but picked Ricky Ponting, Brad Haddin and Steve Smith, who have suffered
recent injuries.

"Hussey and Hauritz, two of Australia's one-day mainstays in recent seasons, were victims of the team management's decision to start its campaign with a fully fit squad," the report said.

South Australian batsman Callum Ferguson and Tasmanian spinner Jason Krejza, who toured India in 2008, made the cut.

Wicketkeeper-batsman Haddin injured his knee while batting during Sunday's one-day international against England in Perth. "During the batting innings the knee became swollen. We expect this to resolve soon after we arrive in India," said team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris.

Spinning all-rounder Smith injured his groin last Wednesday in Sydney but Kountouris said the 21-year-old was making "very good progress".

"After the game things were being thrown about by people saying that could be a reality that you're going to the World Cup," said Krejza, who claimed eight wickets on Test debut against India at Nagpur in 2008. A few of his teammates spoke about the possibility of him making the World Cup squad at Perth on Sunday. "After that, I couldn't stop thinking about it. If there was a parrot in the corner of the room and I told you not to look at it, you'd be staring at it the whole time," he added.
