In this ultra-competitive era, every win matters for players and defeats affect their mindsets. Some of them get used to frequent wins while some learn how to overcome their failures. India's U-19 World Cup-winning all-rounder Anukul Roy is prepared for the highs and lows and lives by his philosophy — enjoy every moment. The left-arm spinner and talented batsman from Jharkhand, who picked up 14 wickets in the recently-concluded World Cup, is representing Reliance 1 in the DY Patil T20 Cup at Nerul, Navi Mumbai. Reliance 1 led by Saurabh Tiwary, has managed to win only one out of their three games. Roy contributed 30 off 14 balls and claimed three wickets against Air India on Saturday, but they ended up losing by three runs off the last ball.

"We could have won today had we played slightly better. The defeat is tough to digest, but you have to come out of it. I try to forget it [defeat] as soon as possible," Roy told mid-day on Saturday. The cricketer, who left his hometown Samstipur in Bihar to pick up the nuances of the game in Jamshedpur at the age of 15, has his own success mantra. "I know I am not going to be the most successful player in every match so whenever I give my best, I enjoy it. Even when I don't perform well, I enjoy my teammates' performance. It gives you a different feeling and it works well for the team too," said Roy.

The young gun credited his success to his family, especially father Sudhakar, who is an advocate and a former left-handed batsman, "My family members have made a lot of efforts. They sent me to Jamshedpur at an early age which I think made a huge difference because that helped me learn the game very quickly. Whatever trophies and cash awards I have received belongs to them. I gave my U-19 World Cup awards to my father and asked him to do whatever he wants to do, because I felt it's all because of him." Now, Roy wants to put behind the U-19 glory and concentrate on the next level. "I need to perform better at first-class level which requires more practice and mental toughness. I have to analyse myself and work on areas that I have a bit of concern over," Roy concluded.
