India vs New Zealand: Cricket fans livid over no entry to CCI

Spectators missed out on watching local boy Prithvi Shaw score a fine fifty for the Board President's XI against New Zealand yesterday after police refused to let fans inside the stadium. "We have not been instructed about whether or not to allow spectators inside the ground. We don't have a problem allowing them in, if we get orders," a senior policeman told mid-day.

Cricket Club of India authorities claimed they hadn't received the required police clearance to permit fans inside the premises. "The CCI is just hosting the games. The BCCI needs to approach the police for clearance. We have been told that the BCCI is in touch with the police to sort out this issue. Once we get the police clearance, we don't have a problem opening the gates for fans," a CCI official told mid-day. Fans, meanwhile, were left disappointed. "Since our school vacations are on, we decided to come and watch the match today but we have been waiting outside the ground for over two hours now," said Kamil Cherian, a student, who was accompanied by a bunch of friends.
