V Chamundeshwarnath, India's team manager for the ICC World T20 in England is convinced that the unpleasant charges levelled at him emanate from jealousy over his managerial appointment for a major tournament.

Andhra Cricket Association (ACA) secretary Chamundi (as he is called in cricket circles) was suspended by the association in Vijaywada yesterday for various alleged misdeeds including seeking sexual favours from state women cricketers.

"I am not even a selector so where is the question of all these charges," asked Chamundi from London.

The cricket administrator reeled off instances of him helping women in sports.

"I presented a car (Chevrolet) to cricketer Mithali Raj six months ago. A Honda City car was presented by me to badminton star Saina Nehwal recently and I rewarded Sania Mirza when she won the junior Wimbledon doubles crown in 2003."

Asked why he decided to reward these sportspersons, Chamundi said: "Because their feats go un-rewarded.

Indian women's cricket is not promoted at all."

When reminded that his image has taken a beating with this latest controversy, he appeared unfazed.

"I am not bothered. My image is not damaged. No one will believe all this. Let them say what they like. The very fact that they (ACA) decided to suspend me when I was out of town shows that there is something sinister in all this," he said.
