If there were questions over Yuvraj Singh's form and fitness after his surprise inclusion in the Indian ODI and T20 teams for the England series, he put all of them to rest with an entertaining 56 from 48 balls during the India A versus England warm-up game at Cricket Club of India's Brabourne Stadium yesterday. Yuvraj's knock was studded with six hits to the fence and two sixes. England tried to exploit his weakness with the rising ball when Jake Ball gave Yuvraj a wake-up call with a sharp rising one, but the southpaw was lucky to survive. The ball hit him on the gloves after he took his eyes off it and ducked.
Yuvraj failed to get on top of another rising ball from David Willey, top-edging a pull, only to see it fall short of Adil Rashid who was too deep on the square-leg boundary.
However, Yuvraj got his legs moving while playing the spinners. He hit his first four when he picked Rashid's googly correctly and on-drove him to the fence. No one moved, except the non-striker Ambati Rayudu, who ducked in time to avoid the ball coming in at bullet pace towards him.
In the next over, Yuvraj took two steps down the wicket to loft Rashid's leg-spinner over long-off for a six. Even when he was going great guns, the crowd was screaming, 'Dhoni, Dhoni', eagerly waiting for the skipper to come in. But Yuvraj didn't pay too much attention to that and played one of his vintage cover drives off Chris Woakes to the boundary. The left-hander was almost dealing in boundaries and sixes, making up for the dot balls he played early in his innings.
