IPL 7 final row: Aggrieved MCA hands over accreditations

The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) which was miffed at the IPL Governing Council's decision to shift the final to Bangalore on Saturday, has gone ahead and handed over their accreditation cards to the BCCI.

"We have handed over all our IPL accreditations. The office bearers of MCA, managing committee members and the volunteers connected with the tournament have done so as we are not happy that the final has been taken away without a proper reason," Vinod Deshpande, MCA treasurer was quoted as saying to PTI. MCA's Joint Honorary Secretary Dr PV Shetty informed that an urgent Managing Committee has been called to discuss a line of action.

It has also emerged that the Wankhede lost out to Chinnaswamy Stadium due to the prevailing rules that prevent fire-cracker displays taking place in the city beyond 10:00pm. This is what Sanjay Patel, the secretary of the Board told an official from the MCA during Saturday's match between Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings.

An MCA source told mid-day: "Since Sanjay Patel was seated in the president's box, an MCA official decided to speak to him to understand the reason for the shift in the venue for the final. Patel said the IPL Governing Council members (who met on Saturday) felt the fireworks for the final would not be possible as the permission is only till 10pm in Mumbai."

MCA on Saturday wrote to the BCCI and IPL for a reasons with regards to a shift in venue. "We can always obtain special permission for fireworks from the police department. We have successfully hosted the 2011 World Cup final. All VIPs were taken care of during the final.

The MCA should be party to whatever decisions IPL take pertaining to our association," added the source. It is learnt Patel will talk to the IPL Governing Council if the decision on the final can be reversed.
