The six local spinners, who bowled to the Aussies along with Sriram were off-spinners Jaikishen Lolekar, Sonu Singh and Siddhesh Lokre and left-arm spinners Shubhanshu Singh, Mihir Khandhar and Sagar Udeshi. Sriram was seen giving specific match simulation practice, asking his batsmen to rotate the strike, while keeping a count of it.
Left-arm spinner Khandhar, who plays for Payyade Cricket Club, rolled his arm over against Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Aston Agar and Shaun Marsh. He managed to dismiss Agar twice. "I almost got Smith out when he played a defensive shot and ball flew towards silly point. But I bowled Agar off consecutive deliveries. Agar’s wickets gave me confidence that I too can bowl to Test batsmen. I know he scored 98 at No. 11 on Test debut (vs England at Nottingham in 2013)," the 21-year-old Khandhar told mid-day yesterday.
Another left-arm spinner, Shubhanshu, who had also bowled against the English and South African batsmen during net sessions, felt that the Aussie batsmen are good as compared to batsmen from other countries. "I think the Aussies are very good; they middle the ball and hit very hard. But I am satisfied that I dismissed their wicketkeeper-batsmen Mathew Wade when he top-edged one while playing a the sweep shot. He immediately complimented me. Maxwell too was in the nets and encouraged me to bowl the same line and length," said 20-year-old MIG CC bowler.
