India's 1983 World Cup-winning all-rounder Roger Binny became one of the biggest victims of the conflict of interest issue yesterday with former Indian wicketkeeper MSK Prasad replacing him in the national selection panel headed by Sandeep Patil.

The 29-point guidelines circulated by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to its member units were "unanimously" approved at the Annual General Meeting yesterday. Binny was forced to tender his resignation from the senior selection committee as his son Stuart is part of the Indian team. However, the 1983 World Cupper was not upset on being relieved of his post.

Roger goes fishing
In fact, while the AGM was being held at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai, Binny was relaxed and it is learnt, had even gone for fishing. "I can hold my head high," the Bangalore-based Binny told mid-day. "I have never sat in the selection committee meeting whenever his (Stuart) name was discussed. If you check with the other selectors, they will let you know what exactly I did," said Binny.

BCCI president Shashank Manohar elaborated on the Binny issue: "That perception has to change. There should not be any injustice towards Stuart Binny too. If he is a deserving player, he should not get flak from media because he is (selector) Roger Binny's son. We can't destroy his career." Binny stressed that his son has earned his place in the Indian team. "I never recommended my son at any point during my stint (which lasted three years). He has earned his place the hard way. There were no favours for him (Stuart)," said Binny.
Hans is dejected
Meanwhile, the BCCI also decided to end the tenure of Central Zone selector Rajinder Singh Hans and picked Rajasthan's Gagan Khoda, who played two one-day internationals in 1998. Manohar said Hans was not retained because of non-performance. "Looking at his performance, we decided to go for a new one (selector)," said the BCCI president.
Hans sounded upset when mid-day spoke to him last evening. "Whatever he (Manohar) has said must be correct. I can't challenge him," said Hans. "I just heard on the television that I am have not been retained. I have not got a call from the BCCI so far. It is fine. I have nothing to say about it. He (Manohar) has said what he wanted to say. I am fine (with it)," Hans added.
