Dementieva downs Safina for Sydney title

Dinara goes down in all-Russian final

Elena Dementieva defeated Dinara Safina 6-3, 2-6, 6-1 in an all-Russian final of the Sydney International Friday. The victory stretched world number four Dementieva's winning start to this year to 10 matches going into next week's Australian Open in Melbourne. Dementieva won last week's Auckland WTA tournament and has now won 13 career singles titles. Dementieva's victory levelled her head-to-head record with Safina at 5-5.
