2016 is truly Ravichandran Ashwin's year. He is living a dream. On Monday it was revealed that after being declared the ICC Cricketer of the Year and ICC Test Cricketer of the Year, he has received yet another prize. The prize the right-handed off-spinner has received is that of a second child. On Monday, Ashwin’s wife Prithi Ashwin took to Twitter to announce that she had given birth to the couple's second child.
The baby girl was born on December 21, a day after India thrashed England in fifth Test in Chennai to clinch the series 4-0, and the good news wasn't shared with the world since they didn't want anything to take away from Ashwin's ICC Cricketer of the Year honour.
The couple, who married in 2011, already have another girl -- Akhira -- who was born in 2015.
The offspinner has had a brilliant run in 2016 having taken 72 wickets from 12 Tests and won man-of-the-series awards in four successive series - against Sri Lanka, South Africa, West Indies and New Zealand.
Ashwin tweeted this on Christmas day:
One small request, please do not tag my wife in all your funny tweets. She has better things to look after, although I am ðÂÂu00c2u009fÂÂu00c2u0098ÂÂu00c2u0082over it.

His wife explained what he meant by 'things':

She described the girl as a 'carrom baby and explained that they had delayed making the announcement in order to not steal the limelight from Ashwin.
I delivered carrom baby #2 on the 21st. She waited out a State-wide shut down thanks to the cyclone AND 5 days of Test cricket at ChepaukðÂÂu00c2u009fÂÂu00c2u0091©ðÂÂu00c2u009fÂÂu00c2u0091§

In a series of dramatic tweets, Prithi said that she was worried that her water would break at Chepauk and she would have to deliver at the stadium. She explained that since Ashwin had just won the 'Cricketer of the year' award, they didn't want to steal the offie's moment, they delayed the announcement.
I thought my water would break when we won that game and I was going to have the baby at Chepauk. Now, THAT would have been some story.

She called the girl 'Pavilion terrace baby' and said that Santa had been kind enough to gift them her. But bid adieu to sleep, concluding that it wouldn't be her companion anymore in 2017.
