Despite a patient 63 from Siddharth Akre, the Mumbai under-23 team managed to score just 267 in the second essay against Delhi on Day Three of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy final at Mumbai Cricket Association Bandra-Kurla Complex ground yesterday. In response, the visitors scored 123 for two at stumps, 115 away from victory.

Rawat in form
Delhi opener Anuj Rawat, who scored 83 in the first innings, continued his form in the second innings with an unbeaten 67. The left-handed batsman, who played three Ranji Trophy games this season, played attacking shots, hitting seven fours and a six. Skipper Jonty Sidhu giving him company on 15, slammed one six and a four during their unbeaten 37-run stand for the third wicket. For Mumbai, medium-pacer Sagar Jadhav and left-arm spinner Karsh Kothari claimed one wicket each.

Mumbai U-23 coach Amit Pagnis said he was confident of his bowlers' ability to capture the remaining eight wickets to win the title. "We require eight wickets for victory. We claimed their last eight wickets for just 78 runs in the first innings. I am confident our bowlers will repeat the same tomorrow morning (Wednesday) to win the final," Pagnis told mid-day yesterday.

Crucial opening hour
However, the former Mumbai and Railways batsman said: "Making good use of the first-hour and hitting the right areas will be very crucial for our bowlers." Earlier, resuming on their overnight score of 105-4, Ashay Sardesai (45) was dismissed after adding just eight to his Monday's total. Shams Mulani scored 36. Akre, who put on 55 for the seventh wicket with Sairaj Patil (33), showed discipline during his 158-ball stay. He hit 11 boundaries. For Delhi, pacer Gaurav Kumar claimed four for 87, while Simarjeet Singh, Shivank Vashisth and Tejas Baroka took two wickets apiece.
