Former India pacer Balvinder Singh Sandhu has resigned from Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) Cricket Improvement Committee (CIC) citing "personal reasons". This is the second time he has resigned from the CIC after he first tendered his resignation in 2012. Sandhu shot a letter to the MCA yesterday morning informing them about his decision. "Yes, I have resigned from the CIC due to personal reasons," Sandhu confirmed to mid-day.

His decision to step down has clearly not gone down well with the MCA officials. "If he had prior commitments, then why did he take up the assignment in the first place? He should have been aware of his plans well in advance. Now, we have to look for a replacement in the CIC," an MCA official said. Apart from being occupied for a movie being made on the 1983 World Cup victory, Sandhu also works for the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

He was head coach of the Mumbai North Team during the inaugural T20 Mumbai League, but within a week's time he stepped down from that position. Of late, the MCA has seen a spate of resignations. After senior team coach Sameer Dighe, trainer Pratik Kadam and phsyio Dr Ashutosh Nimse decided to discontinue their tenures, Mumbai U-16 coach Vinayak Mane also decided to resign.
