Lusty hitting from pacemen Mitchell Johnson (53) and Ben Hilfenhaus (34) helped add on 91 runs for the last two wickets as Australia recovered from 189 for eight to set England a challenging target.
Johnson clubbed a six and five fours in his 66-ball half-century while Hilfenhaus smacked a six and three fours in his 58-ball cameo.
Johnson and Hilfenhaus put on 76 runs off 89 balls for the ninth wicket.
James Anderson finished as England's best bowler with 4-66 off 30.1 overs, while Tim Bresnan claimed 3-89 from 30 overs.
Anderson now has 21 wickets for the series.
