Anirudh Chaudhary, who represents Haryana Cricket Association in the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), is no stranger to politics. In fact, it runs in the family.

The 37-year-old administrator replaced Mumbai Cricket Association president Ravi Savant as Treasurer on Saturday, a day before the BCCI’s Annual General Meeting.

Chaudhary’s father Ranbir Singh Mahendra was president of the Board in 2004 when Jagmohan Dalmiya’s casting vote helped him edge out Sharad Pawar for the top job. Ranbir Singh was also Secretary and Joint Secretary of the BCCI. “Only the treasurer’s post was missing in our family,” Ranbir Singh told Sunday MiD DAY on Saturday evening.

Chaudhary, who was appointed head of the Museum committee at the last elections, was tipped to be appointed as chief of the Indian Premier League after Rajiv Shukla decided that he didn’t want to continue heading the Twenty20 extravaganza. “I am happy with the Treasurer’s post. It is a full-fledged one and I am honoured,” said Chaudhary, who was manager of the Indian team on the 2011 Test tour of England.u00a0
