Khan released an AI-generated speech as his party won 170 seats in the general elections

Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar said on Saturday that party founder Imran Khan will decide who will be the next Prime Minister of Pakistan. The party claims to be in a strong position after winning 170 National Assembly seats in the general elections held in Pakistan on February 8, The Express Tribune reported.

“Imran Khan will decide who will be the next PM. He is the leader, whether he is in jail or outside,” Gohar said while addressing a press conference here, the report said. Gohar also claimed that the party has won 170 National Assembly seats out of the 265 contested.

“Out of these, 94 are those whom the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) is admitting and has issued Form-47 to,” Gohar said, adding that on 22 other seats where PTI had won, the victory was “converted to a defeat”, Express Tribune reported.

The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN), which had been favoured to sweep the polls, has so far won the second-most seats at 69. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is placed third with 51 seats. The 22 remaining seats will not be enough to give PMLN, headed by former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, or PPP the lead, even if they were to win all of them.

Still, none of the three major parties of the country will win the necessary 169 seats to have a majority in the Parliament, and hence, will be unable to form the government on their own, leaving it unclear who will be picked to be the country’s next Prime Minister.

In a speech released on Friday, an AI-generated version of Khan claimed victory in the elections and called on his supporters to “now show the strength of protecting your vote”, CNN reported. An anti-terrorism court in Pakistan has granted bail to Khan and former foreign minister Mehmood Qureshi in cases linked to the May 9 violence.
