The Maharashtra State Commission for Women said it has asked the police to block social media accounts spreading false information about the death of Disha Salian, the former manager of late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. They also sought action against Union Minister Narayan Rane and his MLA son Nitesh Rane.

Earlier reports stated that Salian’s parents have urged everybody to stop the misinformation surrounding their daughter’s death and said they were close to taking their own lives, over all the controversy.

We must see a halt to the current charges and counter charges with politicians claiming the truth will be out. One has to empathise with her family and refrain from making statements that will deepen their tragedy and compound the struggle to carry on after their daughter’s death.

The police force and investigating agencies are present for the real picture. It is certainly not on that politicians get involved in this matter. It is upto the correct agencies to investigate, if there is any investigation is needed. It is shocking that the case is being sensationalised and words like ‘expose’ ‘the real truth’ and much more are being used. Let the law take its course, but this has become a political slugfest and this is reprehensible.

Individuals should not be adding to the problems through giving fuel to the various canards and theories by self-styled experts and know-it-alls on social media. If people claim they really know what has happened, go to the correct avenue and report it with proof.

The larger perspective is that it is open season, especially on social media, to make comments about women. Comments roll in about character and causes including judgements by all and sundry. This is a heinous and criminal response and we see this pattern in many instances. Desist from this and take action against those responsible for this behaviour.
