It is called closing the gap, in local parlance. That is just what the civic body aims to do with it stating ambitiously that it is going all guns to see that no Mumbaikar is left unvaccinated. In yet another twist to the vaccination tale, the civic authorities want to see that all housing society residents are fully vaccinated. To ensure that, they plan to assign special days for vaccination for housing societies.

Recently, the BMC also released stickers which stated: fully vaccinated society. We have to applaud the various methods the civic authorities are trying, to ensure as much vaccination as possible. From mobile vaccination vans for seniors, special days for women who may have been left behind in the vaccine race, to, now, the housing society initiative. This shows that they may get criticised, things may not always go to plan, or there may be drawbacks, but there is no let-up.

This shows in the ideation and initiatives to let all catch up with the vaccine.

Whether it is a lack of opportunity or vaccine hesitancy, the civic authorities are, at the very least, making a massive effort to get these persons to take the vaccine and close the gap for the jab.

It also shows that we are taking small steps on the ground, for those left out in the vaccine race. Constant creative methods to increase vaccination numbers are also welcome.

We, who are always so quick to criticise the BMC, and sometimes it may be justified, need to meet them halfway on these measures.

Encourage your housing society residents to earn the fully vaccinated label, spread correct information about COVID vaccination centres and help the most vulnerable get that most-important jab. Full steam ahead, Mumbai’.
