Making sense of the good, bad and often strange trending topics online

The good people online were in a rather introspective mood following the rise of a trending topic titled 'things we learned on Twitter.'

There were an astonishing number of lessons shared but, for the sake of brevity, here are the top ten tweets that caught my eye:

1. Once you start using Twitter, your sleeping patterns slowly change.
2. Everybody is a political analyst!
3. Most celebrities are more boring than your real friends.
4. Most of the people here cannot spell.
5. People who aren't following you check your tweets the most.
6. Pretty girls curse too much.
7. The number of ignorant people is more than double the number of intelligent people.
8. Everybody wants to be a rapper.
9. You can make a grown man cry with 140 characters or less.
10. No one paid attention during the grammar section in English class.

Justice for all
Soon after Karnataka chief minister BS Yeddyurappa was indicted by Lokayukta Justice Santosh Hegde, the latter acquired hero-like status - at least for some. Rajarshi Dutta tweeted: 'Now it time for the BJP to call Justice Hegde a paid Congress agent. After all, it's the best way to cover up their own sins.' Someone with the handle Offstumped asked, 'So, Justice Hegde, a dumb question in these 25,000 odd pages on illegal mining, are there any pages on mining reforms?'

Pardon?
'Weird Indian pronunciations' led to much mirth. Some of the gems tweeted included 'immi-jaitley', 'sickular instead of secular', 'alzebra instead of algebra', 'vaater instead of water' and this from a certain Shreyas Shevade: Girl coming out of the exam hall after a bad attempt and crying, "I lost my mammary."
