Former Union Minister Sharad Yadav passes away

Veteran Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Sharad Yadav passed away on Thursday, informed his daughter Subhashini Sharad Yadav through a social media post.


Yadav who had launched his own party Loktantrik Janata Dal, merged with Lalu Yadav's outfit RJD in March 2020 which he said was the "first step towards a united opposition".


A statement from the Fortis Memorial Research Institute said Yadav was brought to the emergency ward in an unconscious and unresponsive state.


"On examination, he did not have any pulse or recordable blood pressure. He underwent CPR as per ACLS protocols. Despite best efforts, he could not be revived and was declared dead at 10.19 pm," the statement said.

He was a former union minister in various governments.

After the news of his demise, tributes began to pour in. Several political leaders took to Twitter to express their grief.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah wrote, "Received the sad news of the demise of Sharad Yadav. He made his valuable contribution in Bihar and Indian politics for decades. In this hour of grief, I express my condolences to his family and supporters."

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath worte, "The demise of former Union Minister Sharad Yadav is very sad."

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge wrote, "I am saddened by the demise of Sharad Yadav, senior leader of socialist stream of the country. My deepest condolences to his family and supporters."

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav wrote, "The demise of the great socialist leader Sharad Yadav is extremely heart-wrenching. May God give peace to his soul and strength to the bereaved family members to bear this loss."

Bihar deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav released a video message, he said, "saddened to hear about the demise of Sharad Yadav."
