Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday urged the Opposition parties to stay united to fight back the party in power at the Centre. Rahul was addressing a breakfast meeting he hosted for Opposition leaders at the Constitution Club in Delhi on Tuesday.

“We should remember the foundation of unity and it is important that now we start to come up with the principles of this foundation,” he said at the meeting.

AAP, BSP absent

Apart from around 100 MPs of the Congress, leaders of several opposition parties, including TMC, NCP, Shiv Sena, DMK, CPI-M, CPI, RJD, Samajwadi Party, JMM, JKNC, IUML, RSP, KCM, LJD and RSP attended the meeting. Leaders of 17 opposition parties were invited at the breakfast meeting, but Mayawati’s BSP and Arvind Kejriwal’s AAP did not attend.

The meeting comes amid continued standoff between the Opposition and the Centre over the Pegasus snooping issue, with the former demanding a discussion in Parliament and a Supreme Court-monitored probe. The government is, however, saying that this is a non-issue and does not want it to be discussed in Parliament.

“Nobody in the government is listening. So we have decided to get together. The Opposition is united and we are all together,” Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said.
