A man was allegedly hit with a cement block and an iron rod after his request for water took a violent turn with his neighbour.

A man was allegedly killed by his neighbour after his request for water in the Mundhwa area of Pune, police said on Wednesday.


The officials on Tuesday said, accused Rakesh Tukaram Gaikwad (35) has been apprehended by the police.


The man was allegedly hit with a cement block and an iron rod by his accused neighbour after the request for water turned into a violent argument.


The deceased has been identified as Shrikant Alhat, a resident of Pune. He died due to excessive bleeding.

A police official said, "The incident took place on Monday night when Alhat, who lived alone, asked for water from Gaikwad. This seemingly innocent request angered Gaikwad, leading to a heated argument between the two. The argument quickly turned violent, with Gaikwad attacking Alhat with deadly weapons."

"The relationship between Gaikwad and Alhat wasn't up to par due to Alhat's alcoholic habits. The request for water at midnight night was the tipping point that led to the tragic outcome. Alhat lost consciousness and succumbed to his injuries," he added.

According to the reports from ANI, Rakesh was apprehended following the victim's brother police complaint. Santosh Alhat, victim's brother filed a complaint with the police on Monday.

The FIR (First Information Report) was lodged under Section 302 of the Indian Penal Code at Mundhwa Police Station on Monday.

Further investigation is underway in the case.

Pune city had been in news for over weeks now due to the Pune car crash case.

As per the PTI report, the car, a Porsche, allegedly driven by the minor accused, fatally knocked down two bike-borne IT professionals--Ashwini Koshta and Aneesh Awadhiya--in Kalyani Nagar area of Pune city in the early hours of Sunday. The police believe that the accused was under the influence of alcohol when Pune car crash happened.  Both Koshta and Awadhiya were from Madhya Pradesh and working in Pune.

Reportedly, following the Pune car crash, the police registered a case against the teenager's father under Sections 75 and 77 of the Juvenile Justice Act and relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). 

A court on Sunday remanded parents of a 17-year-old boy allegedly involved in the Pune car crash in police custody till June 5 in a case pertaining to destruction of evidence, reported the PTI.

According to the PTI, the duo is being probed for their alleged role in tampering with the blood sample of the minor following the car accident on May 19 in Maharashtra's Pune city, which claimed the lives of two IT professionals.
