On Sunday, President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge extended Chhath Puja greetings to people.

The four-day Chhath Puja began on November 17 this year.

During the festival, devotees fast and gather on the banks of rivers to offer prayers to the Sun God.

On this occasion, President Murmu stated that, along with worshipping the Sun God, Chhath Puja is also an opportunity to worship water bodies.

"This festival related to nature inspires us to promote environmental protection. Come, on this auspicious occasion, let us resolve to move forward by balancing development and environment," she said in a post on X.

Vice President Dhankhar said the festival is a symbol of the eternal values of Indian culture and its unbreakable connection with nature.

In a post on X, Modi said, "May the worship of Sun God infuse new energy and new enthusiasm in everyone's life. Jai Chhathi Maiyya."

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge also wished the people on the occasion. In a post on X, Kharge posted, "Best wishes for the evening Arghya of Chhath Puja, the great festival of faith, purity, devotion and sun worship. Our great civilization, that gives equal respect and honor to the setting and rising sun, shows how deep the importance of nature is in our Indian life. May this holy festival bring new enthusiasm, joy and immense happiness in everyone's life", Kharge wrote in a post on X.

Chhatt Puja is celebrated every year with much exuberance in states like Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand and Bengal.

Celebrations are also witnessed in New Delhi, where a large section of people from the aforementioned states live.

Meanwhile, elaborate arrangements have been made by the Bihar government across the state for the third day of the Chhath Puja on Sunday, when lakhs of devotees offer evening prayers to the Sun God.
