Tuesday marked the 33rd death anniversary of the former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, and Prime Minister Narendra Modi all paid tribute to him in different ways.

Per an ANI report, Rahul Gandhi along with Mallikarjun Kharge and his mother Sonia Gandhi paid homage to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 33rd death anniversary at Veer Bhumi in Delhi on Tuesday morning. Additionally, he posted a picture of himself and his father from when they were younger, showing Rajiv Gandhi holding Rahul's shoulders. Rahul said, "Father, Your dreams, my dreams, Your aspirations, my responsibilities," in the post. I will never forget your recollections, both now and in the future."

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid tributes to Rajiv Gandhi, "On his death anniversary, my tributes to our former PM Shri Rajiv Gandhi Ji," he posted on X. Other Congress leaders like P Chidambaram and Sachin Pilot also paid their respects to the former prime minister in the national capital.

After his mother, Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, was assassinated in 1984, Rajiv Gandhi assumed leadership of the Congress. At 40 years old, he took office as India's youngest prime minister in October 1984. His term as India's prime minister ended on December 2, 1989. Rajiv Gandhi, who was born on August 20, 1944, was killed on May 21, 1991, during an electoral rally in Sriperumbudur, Tamil Nadu, by a suicide bomber affiliated with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), a pivotal player in the Sri Lankan civil war.
