The CBI is waiting for the Lok Sabha speaker’s nod to prosecute four political leaders in the Narada sting case, including BJP’s Suvendu Adhikari  a senior official said on Tuesday, scotching allegations of biasness against the agency by several quarters.

The CBI had on Monday arrested two state ministers, one MLA and a former party leader. They were purportedly caught accepting bribes on camera. It has “sought permission from the Lok Sabha Speaker to prosecute Adhikari, Saugata Roy, Prasun Banerjee and Kakali Ghosh Dastidar”, who were all TMC MPs when the sting was allegedly conducted, the official said.

He said political heavyweight Mukul Roy, who had quit the TMC and joined the BJP in 2017, doesn’t feature in the list. TMC spokesperson Kunal Ghosh, following Monday’s arrest, had claimed that the CBI spared Adhikari and Mukul Roy as they’re now in the BJP. Narada News editor Mathew Samuel, who claimed to have conducted the sting in 2014, had also sought to know why no action was taken against Adhikari.
