At least six persons died in Satara district of Western Maharashtra on Friday in rain-related incidents including landslides while three persons were missing, a senior official from the state Disaster Management Department said.

Earlier, district police had said that 20 persons were feared trapped after landslides hit eight houses in Ambeghar and Mirgaon villages in Patan tehsil during night and rescue operations were on. “Two persons died in Jawali tehsil while another two died in Wai tehsil in landslide and other incidents. A woman and a man died in separate incidents of landslide and flash flood in Patan tehsil," the state official said, without giving more details.

“Four persons were swept away in flood waters in Jawali tehsil, of which two were found dead. The remaining two are still missing. One person from Mahabaleshwar is also missing," he said. Satara guardian minister Balasaheb Patil said more than 20 people are stranded in various parts of Patan tehsil. "We have never seen such heavy and incessant rainfall in our lifetime," he said.

A bridge in Pali village in Patan tehsil has gone under water for the first time since 1991, the minister said.
