The opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) has written to the Maharashtra legislature secretary seeking to move a no-confidence motion against Assembly Speaker Rahul Narwekar.

Sunil Prabhu, MLA of the Uddhav Thackeray faction of the Shiv Sena, and Congress MLA Sunil Kedar told PTI on Thursday that so far 30 MLAs have signed the letter to the legislature secretary.

The opposition has sparred with the Speaker many times during the winter session, accusing him of not allowing its members to speak in the House.

The session will be ending on Friday.

Last week, state Congress president Nana Patole had said the MVA, which includes Sena (UBT), Congress and NCP, was planning to move a no-confidence motion against the Speaker.

No comment was immediately available from state legislature secretary Rajendra Bhagwat's office.
