The Maharashtra government on Monday presented a bill in the legislative assembly to establish a unified authority to expedite mining approvals and foster the growth of mineral-based industries in Gadchiroli district.
As reported by PTI, the 16-member Gadchiroli District Mining Authority (GDMA) will include a minister each nominated as co-chairperson and deputy chairperson, along with ex-officio members. It has also been reported that Maharashtra’s Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis will be the chairperson of the committee overseeing the mining process in the district.
The GDMA will also include secretaries of departments of mining, industries, labour, energy, finance, environment, and revenue to make sure that mining in the area is done with sheer smoothness without any complexities.
Addressing the situation, the mining minister for the Maharashtra government said that "this authority will be the catalyst in speeding up the process to activate mining leases. It will also generate employment and boost revenue to accelerate the holistic development of Gadchiroli district,” as per PTI.
He also highlighted that Gadchiroli is rich in iron ore and has the potential to be developed as a hub for mineral-based industries, especially steel,” as per PTI.
The move of the Maharashtra government to form a committee that will oversee mining operations in the district will surely enhance the mining process.
Gadchiroli is one of the districts in Maharashtra which is known for abundant minerals and mines. Minerals such as iron ore, haematite, magnetite, BHQ, limestone, dolomites and coal are available in abundance in this part of the state.
With various industries demanding these minerals for their operations, the GDMA can be a governing authority to make sure that Gadchiroli becomes one of the cities with the best mining infrastructure in the country.
However, with the Naxal tag lying on this district, the mining potential of Gadchiroli can surely make the fortune for the district turn different. Earlier, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had declared that Gadchiroli is now "free of Maoist activities" over five months ago. Furthermore, CM Devendra Fadnavis also said that south Gadchiroli and the entire region would soon be rid of the Maoist menace.
