After the fourth phase of the Lok Sabha elections 2024 concluded, Samajwadi Party chief and candidate from Kannauj Lok Sabha seat Akhilesh Yadav exuded confidence in winning and said that people are supporting the INDIA bloc as they feel "cheated by the BJP," reported news agency ANI.

Kannauj, along with 12 other parliamentary constituencies in the state went to the polls during the fourth phase of Lok Sabha elections 2024 on Monday.

"INDIA alliance will win. The people are supporting the INDIA alliance. It was there in the beginning (faulty EVMs). Later, it was rectified & votes are being cast. Those who think that they can win by deceit, the people will give them a reply with their votes. The people feel cheated by the BJP," he said, reported ANI.

Amid the polling in Kannauj, Akhilesh Yadav also visited the Lok Sabha seat on Monday.

Kannauj seat has been considered a stronghold of the Samajwadi Party since 1998, but the seat witnessed a significant shift in the 2019 election when BJP's Subrat Pathak managed to secure victory.

Akhilesh Yadav is in the electoral fray against BJP's sitting MP Subrat Pathak.

Meanwhile, polling in the fourth phase of general elections, which commenced at 7 am on May 13 simultaneously across 96 parliamentary constituencies, recorded an approximate voter turnout of 63.41 per cent as per the latest data issued by the Election Commission of India, reported ANI.

West Bengal recorded 76.29 per cent voter turnout, which is the highest as of the latest data issued by ECI, followed by Madhya Pradesh at 70.47 per cent.

The lowest was recorded in Jammu and Kashmir, which was 37.82 per cent as of the latest ECI data.

The ECI said that the polling was held smoothly and peacefully across the 96 parliamentary constituencies in the nine states and one Union Territory today. The commission led by CEC Rajiv Kumar, along with ECs Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu kept regular close watch on each and every aspect of the poll process in all phases and issued necessary directions, wherever required.

The remaining three phases of voting will be held on May 20, May 25 and June 1. The results of the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections 2024 will be announced on June 4.
