The Nationalist Congress Party (SP) chief Sharad Pawar on Sunday said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) wants to win 400-plus seats in the Lok Sabha elections 2024 in order to make changes in the Constitution, reported the PTI.

Addressing a campaign rally in Saswad tehsil in Maharashtra's Pune, which is part of Baramati Lok Sabha constituency, Sharad Pawar said that this year's general election is different from earlier ones since it will decide "by which method the country will work", as per the PTI.

"The chief minister of Delhi (Arvind Kejriwal) is put behind bars. They (BJP) are walking on the path of dictatorship and are destroying democracy. Therefore, to save our nation we need to defeat them," he said, the news agency reported on Sunday.

"This Lok Sabha poll is different from earlier ones as it will decide by which method our country will work. The nation should run as a democracy but we are worried. They (BJP) want more than 400 seats to make changes in the Constitution," Sharad Pawar claimed, according to the PTI.

The NCP (SP) has fielded sitting MP and Sharad Pawar's daughter Supriya Sule from Baramati. She is up against Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar.

"Wherever I go I can see man blowing turha symbol. Vote for Supriya Sule and make her victorious with a huge margin. We will strive for development and welfare of people," the opposition stalwart said.

There will be protests in every taluka if his party's Satara candidate is arrested, warns Sharad Pawar

Meanwhile, Sharad Pawar on Saturday said that he will ensure democratic protests in every taluka of Maharashtra if his party's candidate from Satara, Shashikant Shinde, was arrested, reported news agency PTI.

Speaking at a Lok Sabha elections 2024 rally in Satara, Pawar said a case was registered against Shinde in the "APMC FSI matter" on Friday night.

"Attempt is being made to bar him from contesting elections. If that happens and he is arrested, I will ensure that each and every taluka (tehsil) protests in a democratic manner," the veteran politician said, reported PTI.
