Even as the BJP government is facing heat from various communities in Karnataka for reservation, the leaders of Vokkaliga community, which plays a crucial role in the state elections, have demanded that their quota is increased. Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar said on Thursday that Vokkaligas, who are traditionally dependent on agriculture, have made a special contribution to the state’s development, and they have made a justified demand.

“A meeting was also held in this regard under the leadership of Nirmalanandanatha Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt. A meeting will be held under the leadership of Revenue Minister R Ashok along with ministers and all MLA of the Vokkaliga community. “Later, this will be discussed with Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, who will take a decision after reviewing the legal and constitutional feasibility,” he said.
Congress MLC Dinesh Gooli Gowda said that community legislators would meet Bommai, seeking that Vokkaliga community’s reservation in education and jobs is raised from the existing 4 per cent to 12 percent.
