Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar has declared that the state government has decided to revoke the implementation of the National Education Policy, 2020 (NEP). In a statement shared on the social media platform 'X' (formerly known as Twitter), Shivakumar reiterated the government's commitment to cancelling the NEP, raising questions about the urgency to implement it in Karnataka when other states like Gujarat and Uttar Pradesh have not done so.

Citing the success of Karnataka's education system and its contribution to the state's prominence as the IT capital, Shivakumar defended the decision, saying, "The education system in Karnataka is a model for the country. That is why Bangalore is the IT capital today. So many people in the state are in good positions abroad, because of our education system."

This announcement follows the earlier statement made by Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who confirmed that the National Education Policy implemented by the previous BJP government will be completely abolished from the next academic year. He highlighted that the decision was made after considering the opposition from students, parents, lecturers, and teachers.

In July, Karnataka's Primary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa had also stated that the state education department would not adopt the NEP but would instead implement the State Education Policy (SEP).

The National Education Policy 2020, introduced in July 2020, aims to bring about transformative changes in the Indian education sector, encompassing schools to the doctoral level.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Chie Minister paid tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. "Endless tributes to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose, the great freedom fighter who built the Azad Hind Fauz force to fight against the British, and the great patriot, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Sriyutha's struggle and patriotism are always indefatigable," he said on X.
