Three motorcycles were set on fire on Thursday night in Pataudi area here, police said, according to PTI report.

The motorcycles were parked outside Rashid Auto Works near Chungi no. 4 while a mechanic was sleeping inside the shop. Firefighters doused the flames and rescued the mechanic, police said.

Sporadic incidents of arson have been reported from Pataudi since Monday after violence broke out in the adjoining Nuh district over an attempt to stop a Vishva Hindu Parishad procession.

Six people, including two home guards and a cleric, have died in the clashes that spread to Gurugram and other districts of the state over the past few days.

Inspector Rakesh Kumar, Station House Officer of Pataudi Police Station said the cause of the fire is being ascertained.

Meanwhile, a mob of about 30 youngsters allegedly assaulted two brothers, identified as Nisar Ali and Rustam Ali, in Haryana’s Gurugram on Wednesday evening, police said on Thursday. The victims, natives of Malda district in West Bengal, are living in a slum here.

According to a complaint by Nisar, a group of 25 to 30 youths came to the slum on Tuesday and told the dwellers to leave the city by Wednesday. “Around 7 pm on Wednesday, Rustam and I were going to the slum from Sector 70, when four-five youths came and asked my name and started beating us. Soon, over 25 youths joined them and thrashed us badly. They also made derogatory comments about my religion. They fled when some people gathered,” he stated.

“An FIR has been registered and we are trying to nab the accused,” said a cop In neighbouring Nuh, where the violence originally erupted on July 31, a mosque was set on fire on Wednesday night. Another mosque suffered damage apparently after a short circuit, officials said on Thursday. Six people have died in the violence that has spread areas adjoining Nuh in Haryana.

A total of 176 people have been arrested and 78 taken into preventive detention in connection with the communal clashes in Haryana, a top state government official said here on Thursday. Additional Chief Secretary (Home) T V S N Prasad also said 93 FIRs have been registered, including 46 in Nuh, 23 in Gurugram, three in Faridabad, three in Rewari, and 18 in Palwal.
