Covid-19: India’s daily deaths pass 6,000 as Bihar revises toll

With Bihar revising its Covid-19 death toll to 9,429 on Wednesday, India saw the highest-ever jump in daily fatalities at 6,148, according to the Union health ministry's data updated on Thursday morning.


The national toll reached 3,59,676, while the total number of infections rose to 2,91,83,121 after 94,052 more cases were confirmed in a span of 24 hours.  The national Covid-19 recovery rate has improved to 94.77 per cent. A net decline of 63,463 cases has been recorded in the total number of Covid-19 cases in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.



The Covid-19 death toll in Bihar was on Wednesday revised drastically upwards by the state health department. The 6,148 new national fatalities included 3,971 from Bihar, 661 from Maharashtra, 405 from Tamil Nadu, 192 from Karnataka and 156 from Kerala.


Uttarakhand HC asks state govt to audit deaths in second wave

The Uttarakhand High Court has asked the state government to conduct an audit of the deaths that occurred during the second wave of Covid-19, and also explore the possibility of carrying out door-to-door vaccination in remote hill areas. Chief Justice R S Chauhan and Justice Alok Verma also asked the state government to conduct an audit of ventilators and ICU equipment available in government hospitals to find out how many ventilators and equipment are lying un-utilised and the reason for it. The total number of Covid-19 deaths in Uttarakhand till Wednesday evening was 6,849. In view of alleged irregularities in Covid-19 testing in May, the state government has also been asked to file a full report on tests conducted in the month.
