A Chennai-Mumbai flight was compelled to make an emergency landing at Mumbai airport. An IndiGo flight with 172 passengers onboard, reportedly received bomb threat that resulted in the ‘full emergency’ landing of the flight. The incident occurred on June 1, Saturday, reported PTI.

According to the report, the flight landed at around 8.45 am and the passengers’ evacuation has been completed using the step ladder.

Confirming the alleged bomb threat to its Chennai-Mumbai flight, IndiGo in a statement assured of all necessary protocols being followed by the crew and aircraft being taken to an isolation bay as per guidelines by airport security agencies.

Full emergency was declared for the Chennai-Mumbai IndiGo flight 6E5314 on Saturday, after the Mumbai Air Traffic Control (ATC) was informed of alleged bomb threat by a pilot.

This is not the first time in the past week, an IndiGo flight has been threatened. The last incident happened on May 28, where an IndiGo flight 6E2211, operating from Delhi to Varanasi had received an alleged bomb threat at Delhi airport. The Chennai-Mumbai flight marked as the second incident in a week’s span of receiving a bomb threat. “All passengers were safely evacuated via the emergency exits,” said a statement released by IndiGo amid the Varanasi-Delhi flight incident.

IndiGo is not the only airline to receive such bomb threats in the recent past. A Vistara flight operating from Delhi to Srinagar received a bomb threat on Friday. The flight landed safely at Srinagar airport and the 177 passengers onboard were evacuated safely, as reported.

“The passengers of IndiGo flight 6E5314 have been safely evacuated and the aircraft is currently undergoing inspection,” the airline said in a statement.
The statement added, “Post completion of all security checks, the aircraft will be positioned back in the terminal area.”

When the all four cabin crew were seen leaving the aircraft they were immediately suspended by Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), as they were seen carrying luggage with them. The reason being violation of rules during the evacuation, under international norms, passengers and crew are not permitted to take their baggage at the time of evacuation as it may increase the time for evacuation.
