Central Armed Police Forces: First-ever Constable recruitment exams held in 13 regional languages

The decision has been taken on the initiative of the home minister to increase the participation of local youths in the Central Armed Police Forces and to promote regional languages

For the first time, the constable recruitment examination in the Central Armed Police Forces will be conducted in 13 regional languages apart from Hindi and English.

The decision will be application for the forces such as the Central Reserve Police Force (CISF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) 

The decision has been taken on the initiative of the home minister to increase the participation of local youths in the Central Armed Police Forces and to promote regional languages. In addition to Hindi and English, the question papers will now be prepared in the following 13 regional languages: Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri and Konkani.

The examinations are being conducted from February 10-March 7 and around 48 lakh candidates are appearing in 128 cities across the country, said an official statement from Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The MHA had decided to conduct the constable (general duty) examination for recruitment in Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) in 13 regional languages in addition to Hindi and English from January 1, 2024, the statement said.

Constable examination is one of the major recruitment test conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) attracting lakhs of youths from across the country. The MHA statement added that lakhs of youth across the country will be able to participate in this examination in their mother tongue/regional language, which will increase their chances of selection.

The MHA and Staff Selection Commission have signed an MoU to facilitate the conduct of the examination in the 13 regional languages in addition to Hindi and English. Accordingly, the SSC has issued notification in this regard.

Union Minister Jitendra Singh in August 2023 had said the Centre had decided to hold a government job recruitment test, conducted by the SSC, in 15 languages so that the youth of the country do not miss any opportunity. He said this while addressing the 14th Hindi Consultative Committee meeting of the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions.
