Sometimes, the best food is served at the smallest places. Chicken Saraswat Malwani, a modest eatery at Goregaon is far from fancy, and is still an A-class eatery with good food, quick service, and a surprisingly low bill.
The ambience is functional, with seats lined up on both sides of a narrow, long air-conditioned hall. We ordered the Special Veg Thali. You bet it was special; all that food for just Rs 25. One dal, two veggies, rotis, Kokam Kadi and pickle tasty and filling. You might have to order extra chapatis if you are a big eater. The Mutton Dry (Rs 85), Chicken Masala (Rs 70), and Surmai Fry (Rs 80) were a meat lover's delight. All would taste great on an evening of booze and relaxation. Mutton was soft, fish was fresh and the chicken went well with the rice. Three meat dishes, a portion of dal-rice, a Special Thali, and two colas all for Rs 420. Try finding a measly meal like this one in Mumbai!
