Youth want to rope in Rahul Gandhi in fight against Dhoble

After Milind Deora and Poonam Mahajan came forward supporting the city’s youth, who are upset with Assistant Commissioner of Police (Social Service Branch) Vasant Dhoble’s bar raiding ways, representatives of Mumbai’s Youth Congress have requested Rahul Gandhi to intervene and help the city from the high-handed ways of Dhoble and his men.

In a letter written to the Gandhi scion (copy available with MiD DAY) the representatives have asked him to help them and the citizens and have requested for action to be taken against ACP Dhoble. Confirming the same, a Youth Congress member said, “Last month, a few delegates met Gandhi and requested him to look into the matter. We are appealing for those who have been booked wrongly by Dhoble and his men. We have also demanded for an immediate FIR against the ACP. If he is innocent, let the law prove this. By not registering any complaint, the Mumbai police is being partial.”

The letter says that since December, Dhoble has been on the prowl and has been creating fear in the minds of youngsters who party. It also outlines the various incidents of Dhoble’s high-handedness including when he went into Amar Juice Centre and threatened the staff with a hockey stick.

The letter also outlines how Dhoble has been using outdated laws and misinterpreting them to kill the nightlife of the city. Asked why they approached Rahul Gandhi, the member said that the issue was only taken up with Gandhi after the government failed to take any action following their complaints. “We have been complaining about Dhoble but no action has been taken. Hence, the letter was sent to Gandhi, as he is the youth icon and would understand. He would be able to intervene and seek justice.”u00a0
