A LOVE affair, which started with a wrong number, ended on a hospital bed for 19-year-old R Partiban. A resident of Vinoba Nagar, Partiban was calling someone when he accidentally dialled Reshma's number (name changed) last month.

Three men held Partiban's hands and legs and gagged him, while fourth assailant stabbed him in the stomach and chest with a knife

Even after realising that it was a wrong number, the two kept in touch and soon developed a liking towards each other. On Friday, Partiban received a call from the girl inviting him to meet her in person, to which he readily agreed. He set out to keep his rendezvous all excited, little knowing that a nightmare awaited him.

As soon as he reached the spot near Jayalakshmi Road in Banaswadi around 7.30 pm, four men pounced on him and on confirming his identity, began showering him with blows and kicks. In the melee, one attacker pulled out a knife and stabbed Partiban repeatedly in the stomach and chest, while hurling abuses at him.

Terror tale
A visibly shaken Partiban said, "I was going to meet her for the first time and was excited. I noted down the details of place and time immediately." He added, "While three of them held my hands and legs and gagged me, the fourth assailant stabbed me in the stomach and chest with a knife."

The injured victim collapsed on the road and only regained consciousness the next day to find himself at Shekhar Nursing Home. Hospital authorities informed him that he had been found in an unconscious state by passers-by who rushed him to hospital for treatment.

After Partiban narrated the incident, the hospital authorities informed his parents and police began investigations.

Meanwhile, Partiban's family, concerned about his disappearance, filed a missing person report with the jurisdictional police. "Since he was awaiting results, we thought he may have run away from home for being unable to bear the pressure," a family member said.

Statement pending
The Banaswadi police have taken up an attempt to murder case and are waiting for the victim to recover. "Since he is unable to talk, we will record his statementu00a0 after her recovers," a police officer attached to police station said.

"We suspect that the accused are relatives of the girl, who were against their relationship, and forced her to invite the victim on a date. We have obtained clues about the assailants and efforts are on to nab them," said Police Inspector S B Sakri.
