A brave 28-year-old NGO worker thought nothing of her safety and rescued a minor girl from the clutches of predators at Andheri station. On her way home from work at night, the Good Samaritan came to the rescue of a minor who was being molested by men.

The shocking incident occurred on Monday night when Reshma Bhati was returning home at night around 11.30 pm. She alighted from a train at platform one and was trying to hail a rickshaw to Yari Road when she saw a few men trying to molest a minor.

“I saw this young girl crying and with torn clothes. What I saw was shocking. These men were trying to touch her inappropriately. Without thinking twice, I went up to the men and told them to leave her; else I would call the police. Afraid of being nabbed, the goons fled the spot,” said Reshma, who works at her mother’s NGO.

After the goons, fled Reshma asked the girl how she had landed up in this dire situation. “But she was too afraid to talk. Immediately, I then gave her one of the extra tops I was carrying in my bag and covered her up,” added Reshma. She further added that seeing the girl bleeding from a few places, she took her to Cooper Hospital for medical aid and from there she called the police.

Minor reveals all
Reshma said that later in the night at the DN Nagar police station, the girl broke down and revealed all. She said that she hailed from Uttar Pradesh and had got lost here. “She has no one here and roams the streets and begs for a living. She even showed the cops a few places where she stays at night,” said the braveheart.

Finally, around 3 am, Reshma returned home. However, in the morning, the cops called her informing her that the minor refused to go to Mahila Sudhar Grah. Confirming the same, a police official from DN Nagar said, “The minor does not understand that the Sudhar Grah will be a good, safe place for her.”

Reshma said, “I have been living in the city for the last two months. I know how difficult it is to survive in the city alone. Crime against women is increasing. I did not want the girl’s story to become some gruesome story in the paper and therefore, I helped her. I am thinking about counseling the girl and help her find her way back home.”u00a0
