Trio arrested after stealing a mobile phone from a TV journalist
They had a healthy appetite for fine wine. And they were prepared to break the law to keep the liquor flowing. The son-in-law of an ex-Congress Councillor, the driver of a retired High Court judge and the son of a DJB official have been arrested by New Delhi district police in connection with several robberies. One of their accomplices, identified as Rahul, managed to give the cops a slip when police raided their hideout in Sant Nagar area of north Delhi.
"Mohan is the son-in-law of a former Congress Corporator from Seemapuri. Pankaj is the driver of a retired High Court judge and Harish is the son of a Delhi Jal Board employee," said the police.The officer said that few days ago they robbed a TV journalist in Connaught Place area of his cell phone and some cash after which the matter was reported to the police.
"They used to rob people after having liquor and to buy more liquor. They would enjoy liquor party together but as their wine bottles got empty they would set out to rob someone to buy more liquor," said the police official.
Cops arrested the trio with the help of technical surveillance. They had sold the cell phone to someone in Sant Nagar and it was found active. Police traced the person and reached the culprits.
"They robbed the person whey they were drunk. They have committed such a crime in CP for the first time. Before this they have been involved in similar cases in north Delhi," added the official.
