Wide roads, good connectivity, involvement of major developers, developing infrastructure, malls and a number of recreational spots is what makes Thane a hot destination to live in. The area has undergone a drastic change in the last five years. So find out what makes this suburb a sought after destination for home-buyers:

Accessibility
Thane is one of the most accessible suburbs of Mumbai. It's well connected to places like CST, Vashi, Panvel and Karjat by train. The Ghodbunder Road also has good connectivity to various parts of the city. It connects the Eastern Express Highway with the Western Express Highway making it easier to commute by road. "Train services are soon said to start from Mulund to Borivli via Thane. Also, buses will start plying from Kalyan to Thane on a regular basis very soon," says Sonesh Dedhia, director, Dedhia Group.

Real estate
Some of the biggest players in the real estate industry have set up their projects in Thane. Rustomjee, Lodha, Kalpataru, Runwal, Hiranandani, Akruti City, etc have started building lifestyle projects. Currently, the real estate rates here range between Rs 3,500 to Rs 6,000 per sq ft. Places like Manpada, Waghbil, Kolshet Road and Pokhran Road 2 are spots where real estate development is on at full swing. As far as the infrastructure is concerned, Raju Khetwani, MD, Swastik Group says, "Projects like monorail, skywalk, skybus are being planned. The infrastructure will improve in coming years."

Shopping
Thane (W) has some good shopping outlets like Eternity Mall, Lake City Mall, Wonder Mall and Big Bazaar at Majiwada Junction. The area will soon have two more malls u2014 Big Mall at Naupada and Pride Park near Manpada. Vijay Nagri Road at Waghbil is a good place to buy furniture, home du00e9cor items or electrical appliances. Ghodbunder Road is one place where you can find a number of discounted retail outlets as well as automobile showrooms.u00a0

Commerce
There are a number of chemical, engineering, textile and electrical industries in Thane (W) and TTC belt. Sandoz Baug at Kolshet Road has some plants of major firms like Clariant, Bayer Healthcare, Wasan Auto, etc. The TTC zone, ie the Thane-Belapur Road also has a number of factories. GCorp is now also coming up with an IT park near Parshvanath College at Kasarvadavali.
