Satta market gambles on state Assembly poll results
Pre-Diwali gambling in Delhi has found a new flavour. With money and shares becoming passu00e9, Delhiites are betting on the results of the Haryana elections.
Crores are being exchanged as the city tries to predict the neighbouring state's next chief minister. The betting sum has now crossed Rs 100 crore.
"There is a gap of about a week between the polling and the counting dates (October 13 and October 22) of the Haryana elections. There is enough time to bet on the results and make money. This has boosted the satta bazaar this Diwali in Haryana and in Delhi," said a satta agent.u00a0u00a0
Who will win?
Till the day of polling, it was being predicted the Congress would win about 54 seats in the 90-member Haryana Assembly. The Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) was predicted to win 15 seats, the Haryana Janhit Congress (HJC) 10 seats and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) five seats.
But as exit polls indicate a Congress government, the betting price of the Congress Party is coming down. While those who are favouring the INLD and HJC, are being offered lucrative rates.
"Gamblers are gathering information about the next government. Already the tables have tilted in favour of the Congress," said a shop-owner from Lajpat Nagar, who regularly invests in the satta market.

Many investors are looking to make up for losses incurred at the stock market. "Those who have lost money in stocks are looking forward to make a quick recovery by betting on the Haryana polls," said another man involved in the business.
Unusual wait
The election results in Haryana will be declared after a gap of eight days. The Election Commission had reportedly decided to conduct the counting for the three states which went to poll on October 14 two days after the voting. However, the date was pushed forward for Diwali. The counting will now be held on October 22.
