In yet another instance of cruelty being inflicted on animals by humans, a video that's gone viral shows two men reportedly kidnapping a monkey after baiting him with food at Varandha Ghat, around 80 km from Pune.

The video has been doing the rounds of social media platforms and become quite popular with activists seeking punishment for the 'culprits'. While the veracity of the video may be suspect, whether true or not, it is a shocking example of cruelty to a simian.

Painfully, one can see a tribe of monkeys trying to save their member, but failing and having to watch helplessly from the parapet.

While the man's face is not clear, the licence plate, in Marathi, of the Hyundai i20 car reads 1777.

It's not clear what the purpose of the kidnapping, but the brutality of the act suggests some nefarious activity.
