Varanasi: Popular TV artist-producer and Aam Aadmi Party supporter Raghu Ram along with some other party workers were allegedly attacked by some unidentified assailants at Benaras Hindu University campus on Friday, police said.


The incident happened at the BHU campus when the AAP supporters, including the party's Chandigarh candidate Gul Panag and MTV VJ Raghu of Roadies fame, were taking out a motorbike rally, ahead of Arvind Kejriwal's road show in the city.


AAP supporter and the party's Chandigarh candidate Gul Panag tweeted later that she was fine and nothing untoward had happened.

MTV host Raghu Raman said a handful of youths attacked them, but were chased away by BHU students.

Talking about the incident, Raghu Ram tweeted, "Oh well. I just got attacked by 2 guys with lathis inside BHU! They were outsiders. The BHU boys chased them away."

"Have things come to this in Varanasi that visitors are unwelcome.I refuse to believe it," he said in another tweet.

"They have attempted to attack her (Gul Panag), but could not succeed. A group of BHU students chased them away, She is fine," an AAP spokesperson said.

Late Thursday, a procession of the AAP was attacked and stones pelted at it.

In the melee, Prerna, who is media in-charge of the AAP in Varanasi, was hit on her forehead.

A case has been registered in the Lanka Kotwali.

BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi is pitted against AAP's Arvind Kejriwal at Varanasi that votes May 12.
