About 2,700 Pre-University College (PUC) students will be put through the wringer and are expected to reappear for their Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) Hindi examination for no fault of their own.
Approximately 3,000 answer scripts were damaged in the fire incident at Basaveshwar High School in Shimoga last week, leaving 2,700 scripts totally burnt.
The authorities are ascertaining, which students will be required to appear for the re-exam and a special committee was set up to probe into the matter.
The Director of Karnataka State Secondary Education Board (KSSEB) D Venkateshaiah will release the report to the state government today, following which the evaluation process will begin.
No delay
While students await the report with bated breath, the authorities are skirting questions about the delay in beginning the valuation process. "The SSLC valuation will begin today, and after the report is submitted we will discuss a future course of action. We will ensure that there is no delay in announcing the results," said Venkateshaiah.
While the dates for the re-exam will be decided and the list will be displayed today, the prime concern for these students currently is the ambiguity of whether they will be able to get into a good college.
"I will now have to prepare for the exam all over again if my name appears on the list. I had already filled in several application forms for I PUC. Now I will have to put things on hold. Hopefully, PUC colleges will consider our plight and give us some more time to enroll," said, S Razia, a student from Mysore.
Results in May
As concerns continue to rise among students, the director, in an attempt to reassure students that the necessary steps are being taken to minimise anxiety, said, "We will evaluate the re-exam papers and try and give out these results along with the SSLC results. The results will be out latest by the third week of May."
