Members of the Bidve family claimed the visiting officers told them the attack on Anuj could be a hate crime or a racial attack while maintaining the motive behind the murder was still unknown. The police officers told the Bidves they were investigating all angles.

GMP's Chief Superintendent Russ Jackson and Detective Constable Peter Rickards and Shireen Mistry, head of communications and public affairs at the British Deputy High Commission, Mumbai, met Anuj's family at its residence in Chandan Nagar. The meeting lasted over two hours.

Anuj, a PG student, was shot in the head at close range early on Boxing Day in Salford, Manchester. Anuj's cousin Suruchi Wagh spoke to the media after the meeting. "Another post-mortem will be held on Tuesday, and if the report matches the first post-mortem report, then the process of handing over of Anuj's body will be initiated," Wagh said.
