Additional commissioner of police M R Poojar said a property dispute could have prompted the crime since there were no valuables missing and the couple had a good offer for the house.
The couple, originally from Punjab, had settled down in Bangalore 30 years ago. They had adopted a 23-year-old, Anurag alias Happy, a few years back.
Police suspect the involvement of Anurag, a PUC dropout and drug addict, who went missing since Friday. They picked him up for questioning when he returned home yesterday.
They also suspect a servant who has been missing since Friday.
Some neighbours said Sachdev had returned home on Friday after visiting IISc. They also saw him on Saturday night in front of his house but not after that. Experts from the Forensic Science Laboratory said the murder could have taken place 18 hours back.
