Guwahati: Two officially declared foreigners who had entered and stayed in the country illegally were arrested from Jamuguri in Assam's Sonitpur district today.

The two foreigners would be sent to the Goalpara Detention Camp for deportation, police spokesman Rajib Saikia said.

Meanwhile, a Gaonburah (village headman), Moijan Ali, of Soulmari under the same PS was arrested today as he had illegally issued domicile certificates to many for submitting as a citizenship proof document for the National Register of Citizens (NRC), Saikia said.

An FIR was lodged by the SDO (Civil) of Biswanath Chariali in this regard.

In Sonitpur, 12 other declared foreign nationals from Bangladesh were also arrested from different places during the last few days and sent to Kokrajhar detention centre for deportation.
